The Brief
Uptown events were recommended by BAFTA 195 in order to help organise the smooth running of the Arts for India charity dinner, in association with the British Film Institutes. The aim of this annual event, that takes place globally, is to raise awareness and to support the education of underprivileged children, enabling them to make their contribution to the world of art, fashion, film and design.

The Venue
The chosen venue was BAFTA 195, home of the British Academy of Film and Television Arts, that hosts prestigious and large events year-round. The venues ethos to ‘nurture the next generation of talent’ is what made the David Lean Room the perfect setting for the Arts for India charity dinner.

The Event
The fundraising dinner welcomed over 150 guests, to raise money and support deserving students from some of India’s poorest families. This aim of the charity is to provide them with life-changing, higher education through promoting Indian art and culture across the world.

As guest arrived into the impressive venue, they were greeted to a welcome reception where they had their first chance to look at auction items that they would later be able to bid for as part of the fundraising for the charity. These auction items were donated by various attendees of the dinner, along with other individuals and companies wanting to support the cause. During the reception, guests enjoyed being photographed in front of a logo board displaying all the sponsors of the charity.

Guests were then invited to take their seats for dinner; as they entered the Georgian Suite everyone was wowed by the striking décor. The room’s high ceilings and mirror wall paired with beautiful chandelier table centers and ambient lighting set the scene for a truly stunning evening.

Shortly after the welcome reception, guests were invited to watch a never seen before showcase by BFI of the archive of Indian cinema. When guests were invited to dinner they were wowed with the room which featured beautiful table centres and lighting to create a wonderful ambiance to kick-start the evening.

Following on from the first course, an awards ceremony was hosted by sponsors of the charity. Awards were given to high-profile personalities from the film industry for their outstanding achievement in the field of art, culture, and education. Sir Richard Attenborough was honoured for his contributions, as well as Dame Joan Collins, an attendee on the night of the charity dinner.

In order to remember the importance of the evening, guests watched an appeal video for the charity which was followed by a live auction which included items from well-known jeweller Avakian, Indian Fashion Designers and artists. This was the highlight of the evening with guests getting fully involved with generous donations being received. As a surprise for guests, Vasili Karpiak donated a live performance of the classic, Nessun Dorma, which enhanced the evening.

To end the evening, guests enjoyed a party DJ to the early hours of the morning with performances from Sophia Hyatt. This was an evening not only enjoyed by all, but also contributing to a fantastic cause.
