The Brief
Having planned the annual sales awards for our client for the past four
years we knew exactly what we had to provide, and unfortunately exactly
what we had to beat! Each year the awards ceremony gets bigger and better
with new targets reached and expected of everyone involved. The theme
this year was ‘Talent Show’ to reflect on the most successful
year the company has enjoyed to date.
The Venue
With the theme of ‘Talent Show’ in mind where better to have
the awards ceremony than Lord’s Cricket Club? Admittedly England
were still riding high from their Ashes success when the venue was initially
booked! However this bastion of British sport has seen many great legends
pass through its doors and so our client was suitably impressed when we
suggested the venue.
The Party
Star treatment greeted the guests as the red carpet was ready and waiting
for them at the street entrance to the banqueting rooms, even those who
arrived by tube felt the glamour of the night as the private coach dropped
all the guests off at the doors. After a short but sweet reception, with
a certain rock star going by the name of Ozzy mingling among the guests,
the company’s managing director gave an inspiring presentation to
all his staff, illuminating the year’s successes and achievements.
Once finished he proceeded to the all important awards ceremony which
all the guests were waiting for with baited breath!
Each name called out was met with thunderous applause and accompanied
with music selected to suit each member of staff. The Uptown Events AV
crew were on hand to capture every moment of it on both camera and video
camera. The winners were given celebrity treatment as the video was streaming
live on to two huge screens placed either side of the stage. Once the
official business was out of the way the serious business of having fun
started. As soon as the delicious three course meal was cleared the performances
began with Bruce Airhead taking to the stage, whose unique talent was
swiftly unveiled as getting inside a balloon! To much amusement from the
crowd he proceeded to strip off and climb in. Rajan the Magic Man was
wondering through the tables giving impromptu close up shows to the spell
bound and sceptical alike.
The evening was finished off with the Uptown Premier Disco rig. Our DJ
Justin kept everyone on their toes and the tunes carried on until the
early hours. With many a talented dancer striking a pose for their colleagues
on the dance floor, fun was had by all. Once again Uptown Events achieved
the seemingly impossible and beat our efforts from the year before. This
can only mean one thing; 2007’s awards will be a challenge!
