The Brief
Whenever Uptown Events are approached by a new client it’s always
an exciting challenge, and when one of the leading pharmaceutical companies
approached us for their Christmas party their challenge was no different.
Due to previous disappointments this client, understandably, became one
of our most demanding clients. They needed a venue in or around Watford,
Elstree or Potters Bar, with the flexibility to accommodate between 300-450
guests. As several of their guests would be arriving by coach they needed
somewhere with easy access to and from major roads, and all this needed
to be found for a Saturday night.
The Venue
Obviously finding a venue for these criteria was never going to be easy,
but never say never - we found the Watford Coliseum. A raw building needing
a lot of work at first sight, but as soon as Uptown Events worked their
magic the admittedly dowdy town hall was transformed into a dazzling rat-pack
venue for the 1920s. By completely dressing the venue we achieved something
spectacular. Uptown
Events dressed the room through out and gave it a rat pack theme complete
with paparazzi hovering around the red carpet taking photos. We brought
in our own professional caters, giving the client a large selection of
mouth watering courses to choose from.
The Party
Right from the word go all the guests saw this party was like no other
they’d had before. The paparazzi entrance proved a great success
with none of the guests managing to evade our cheeky photographers. Upon
entering the room there were gasps all round as the full effect of the
lighting and staging present in the room was realised. The Frank Sinatra
style singer was going strong while the reception canapés were
served and the guests benefited from the champagne and bucks fizz being
passed around. Several screens were mounted about the room, all showing
the paparazzi pictures taken moments ago, giving some of the guests a
bit of a shock, although all agreed it was a great touch. The room was
decked out in black and silver and the fantastic lighting effects highlighted
the tables and general splendour of the surroundings. Once the speeches
were made the food was served and there was a general consensus that the
standard was unbelievable with several people wanting seconds. The band
then played a party set for the crowd, who were given the chance of dancing
to the fabulous music, or competing to win prizes in the fun casino. Our
Uptown DJ soon got on the decks and within minutes had the dance floor
packed and singing along to various classics. At the end of the night
there were a lot of people desperate for more and the overall verdict
was great; the best Christmas party they’d ever had!
