The Brief
Having organised the Christmas party for this global company for several
years in a row the brief was the same as before; make it bigger and better
than the previous years. Easier said than done, however after a lot of
planning and discussion we proposed the idea of a pirate themed party
which, following the recent success of the ‘Pirates of the Caribbean’
films was an instant hit with our clients.
The Venue
Having decided upon the theme Uptown Events took it upon themselves to
suggest water themed venues to fit the overall pirate image. The chosen
location was the Guoman Tower hotel. Overlooking Tower Bridge and the
Tower of London, and set right against the Thames with spectacular riverside
views it was the perfect choice for a pirate party. Uptown Events transformed
the reception room, putting in a Tiki Bar which served the rum punch to
guests on arrival, installing a ‘walk the plank’ simulator
for the guests to try and best, setting up a pirate casino with the game
‘liars dice’ from the second film and pirate video games set
up throughout the room.
The Party
Upon entering the reception the guests were arrested by the sight of the
reception, decked out with games and décor, including the Tiki
bar, nets, barrels, parrots and palm trees. Once everyone had received
their welcome drink of rum punch from the wench behind the bar it was
time for the dinner to be served in the banqueting hall. Uptown Events
had set up two huge plasma screens by the dance floor facing the guests
as soon as they entered the room, playing famous pirate films from various
genres. Halfway through the dinner the guests were interrupted buy an
astonishing swordfight from two of our experienced actors dressed as particularly
fearsome and slightly drunk pirates! This kept everyone’s attention
as no one knew quite what they would do next. Uptown Events premier DJ
Ritchie Fitch was spinning a great selection of tunes on the stunning
sound system keeping the dance floor packed all night. Once the party
was well underway two Uptown Events employees unveiled the Polly Parrot
vodka luge and saw some exciting action from the guests! Our roaming photographer
captured everyone enjoying themselves and we posted their complimentary
photographs on our partysnaps website for them to all check out later.
