Brief
Summer Ball for high profile Travel Company. The clients required the
2005 Summer ‘masquerade’ Ball to be at a prestigious and ‘alternative’
London venue, for up to 900 guests – a fitting location for a formal
black tie dinner dance function. An important section of the evening was
the annual company awards ceremony; it was imperative that these run with
military precision, one of the top prizes given away on this glamorous
evening was a saloon car. The client felt that the entertainment (which
followed the awards ceremony) was to be a key part of this event.
The Venue
Located on the bank on the Thames the stunning Old Billingsgate commands
stunning views of London. Old Billingsgate, a national landmark steeped
in history, has now become one of Britain’s most exciting, prestigious
& stylish event spaces. The inspiring Grade II-listed Victorian architecture
has recently been given a hi-tech twist and is an extremely flexible event
space.
Theme & Entertainment
On a warm summer evening in July, with Tower Bridge as a backdrop the
guests approached the entrance to Old Billingsgate where they were met
by traditional Geisher Girls who were in place to create excitement and
a insight to what the night ahead has in store for them.
Keeping in line with the masquerade theme guests were overwhelmed when
their night began with an impromptu performance from that now infamous
dark mysterious character The Phantom of The Opera. Following a lavish
drinks reception and once all the guests had taken their places The Phantom
of the Opera appeared on stage to perform some of the classic and well
loved music form the famous opera. Our artist had recently finished his
run of playing the main part of the West End show, which the client felt
added extra authenticity to the performance.
Large projection screens were sited either side of the stage area –
to give that Oscars/Bafta/TV Awards ceremony feel to the event. The disco
followed the awards ceremony and to add to the atmosphere, psychedelic
images were ‘mixed’ live by our DVD Engineer and projected
onto the massive screens.
The stage set and production for the grand disco was vast, with every
minute detail taken in to account. Large ‘comedy / tragedy’
masks were rigged and beautifully lit to serve as a grand backdrop to
the staging.
“You did a brilliant job and I really appreciate all the help you
give me - it makes me look good! Everyone has said it is the best ball
by far, so topping it next year will be a challenge.” The
client contact.
